Happy birthday Kaia Gerber! The model just turned 21, and mother Cindy Crawford is just one of many people sharing pictures and sweet messages in honor of the big day. Crawford posted a photo of herself and Gerber out in the desert, with the young model wearing black pants and a bikini top. "@kaiagerber, how are you 21 already?! I am so proud of the woman you have become and how you are in the world. Your curiosity, kindness and sense of adventure continue to inspire me. I'm so happy to be on this life journey with you! Continue to thrive this year and always — with so much love ❤️ Mom," she captioned the post. Model Karlie Kloss also sent her well-wished and shared a bikini top photo of Gerber, saying: "happy 21st birthday baby K! 💓 @kaiagerber, i am deeply grateful to have you in my life. so proud of the kind + brilliant woman you are. you've accomplished so much and life is only just beginning! cheers to you on this milestone, cannot wait to see all that is in store for you. love you baby sis 🪐✨." Pilates is Gerber's workout of choice—she enjoys both group classes and one-on-ones with LA-based personal trainer Jacqui Kingswell. "For Kaia and her profession it's so important to have a strong body and to know how to stretch it out after a long day on set," Kingswell says. "My most proud moment is when Kaia told me that her outlook on wellness and working out has changed since training with me. Whenever I hear members say this it's truly the biggest compliment. You deserve to enjoy your body and what it does for you and discovering and investigating that is a truly profound experience — so start now, get on the mat and start enjoying the movement."
Gerber says she always wakes up hungry and never skips breakfast, with bagels being her favorite breakfast food. "Eating breakfast regularly has been shown to help reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and obesity," says UC Davis Health registered dietitian Melinda Gong. "There's also evidence that eating a healthy breakfast helps with brain function, especially memory and focus."
Gerber enjoys pasta, and has taught herself how to make it exactly the way she likes. "I don't go a day without eating pasta," Gerber says. "Penne with vodka sauce is my all-time favorite and is actually one of the things I know how to prepare myself. It's very important to know how to make pasta because you can do it anywhere in the world. It's easy, it's fast, and everyone likes it."
Gerber is a big fan of tacos, especially steak tacos. "I can't say enough about the nutritional heavy-hitters in Mexican cuisine," says Clara Barnett, ND, LAc. "Take cilantro for example. Don't mistake it for a garnish. Cilantro is a nutrient-dense herb that contains antioxidants such as Quercetin, a powerful anti-inflammatory agent. It's also high in Vitamin K and A and research shows that it pulls unwanted substances, like heavy metals, from the body. Cilantro is added to salads, salsas and my favorite: street tacos. Traditional Mexican food is more streamlined than the Americanized version of it. You can cut back on fat and sodium by adding cilantro to your carne asada and carnitas instead of dollops of sour cream and cheese."
Gerber prioritizes her sleep, and appreciates nothing more than a full night's rest in her own bed rather than yet another hotel room. "I'll turn in as early as I can," Gerber says. "I don't sleep well when I'm traveling, so there's nothing I like more than getting in my own bed. When I started modeling, my mom always said, 'You're gonna dream about getting in bed early.' I didn't believe her, but after my first fashion month now I do."
