LEWISTON, Idaho (CBS 2) — A Lewiston Police officer's dash cam video captured a scary, close call.
KLEW-TV in Lewiston reports officer Jordan Clare was unhurt after an explosion sent a sparking power line hurtling towards his SUV Friday.
"I was travelling westbound on Bryden and the lines over the intersection began sparking and fell across the intersection," he says.
The line put a foot-long scratch in rear driver side window, and left multiple pits and scratches on the windshield. But Officer Clare wasn't focused on his own safety.
"My biggest concern was for the other citizens and drivers, trying to get traffic stopped," he says.
The sparking line came down right next to a gas station and temporarily shut down the intersection of Bryden Avenue and 8th Street. Grant Dicianni, Director of Emergency Management for Nez Perce County, praised Officer Clare for his actions and quick thinking.
About 1,600 customers were without electricity during the outage.
